  • Is she holding?

I think my female Auratus is holding. I just noticed today while doing a water change. If she is should I move her a private tank? Also one of my two red jewels has turned Bright red and the other is still a redish tan. Is this a sign they are about to mate or just one is becoming dominant?

After further observation I think she is holding. I just did a water change today ~30-40%. My quarantine/ breed tank is dry do I am going to wait a few days then take some water from my main tank and use it to fill my other tank. Just got a new filter for it (hob) hopefully the tank water will get it going fast.

It will also toss the new HOB on your established tank to seed the filter, the water wont do much without that filter being bacteria saturated. Any decor you can move over and even a filter bag of used gravel.

      Congrats the fish look awesome.

I was thinking of taking some of the porcelain O-rings from my canister filter and dropping them into the back of the HOB filter to help the bioload. I will build a fish trap using a 2 litter bottle and hopefully catch her later this week.

          What about the Jewel?

just noticed today. but I have not been focusing on her. I did notice she came out like she wanted to feed still. i found this odd for a holding fish. The male has been very aggressive for the past few weeks. He is a real jerk, but has slacked off lately.

I have never had a problem with fish breeding. sometimes I wish they would not as it creates a lot of extra work. I broke down and sold a tank a few months ago because the fish in it would not stop breeding. I removed fish till I did not have any matching pairs, and yet they just started hybridizing. These fish have only been in this tank for a few months, if that.

Well, she is now in her own tank with a small rock cave for shelter. It was hard as heck to catch her, and I am just hoping I did not stress her too much.

The Auratus is holding she is a mouth brooder. The Jewel is a egg layer, and will never hold eggs in her mouth.
