  • advice for sw tank

hey everyone, im setting up a 10g sw tank.

    i have several questions.

1.) would a 24watt actinic pc light be enough to sustain basic corals?
    if so, what kinds?

2.) as far as filtration goes, would an aquaclear 110 hob with an ac 110 sponge and ac110 bio media be sufficient along with 2x koralia 2 powerheads?

3.) i have ~5lbs of small dead live rock already, how much live rock should i add?

4.) can i do this easilly without any substrate?

5.) can i get a step by step setup guide to setting up a sw tank.

heres a list of equipment i have right now.

    standard 10g tank (20x10x12)
ac110 hob with sponge and bio media
finnex 18" 24watt light running 15" 24watt actinic power compact bulb
korlia 2 powerhead (if needed i will get another one)
    aqueon 50watt submersible heater
    ~5lbs of dead live rock
    FRENCH FRY!!!

4.) can i do this easilly without any substrate? people do bare bottom SW tanks all the time.

5.) can i get a step by step setup guide to setting up a sw tank. google

      aight thanks man!

i was doing a little reading and i noticed that alot of small sw tanks are ran strictly on ph's??
can i get away with running my 10g sw tank on just 2x k2 ph's and cancel the ac110?

with weekly wc's would this be possible?

you could probably do it no filter, but i would want some kind of mechanical filtration alot of stuff can pile up in a week.

sw???? are u sure? btw go and talk with dennis (dh10), he opened a mini store at the back of the liquor store.
almost 15 years ago i had a small 12g with an ac70 as fuge, aragonite sand, 15lb live rock with a small ph (don't remember the brand but maybe similar to the koralia nano).
Add to your wish list a sw test kit

im picking one of those up along with a hygrometer tommarrow:)

                is a fuge neccessary?

i really dont want to have to mess with that if i dont have to.

well, it seems im getting an ac 50 tommarrow for this baby, so theres my mechanical filtration:)

so i believe filtration is done.

now i just need to get mixing salt, live rock, sw test kit, and a hygrometer, and walla.
let that baby cycle, and add some zoas

Look into a Refractometer instead of the hydrometer... it's more accurate and less effected by the elements. cost a bit more but worth it imo and less messy.
