  • What camera to get?

I'm trying to decide which dslr camera to get. Yes I'm geting a Canon ( all my friends have canon's makes it easy to use thier glass). This will be my 1st dslr i've narrowed it down to the t1i or the 50d. Both have the pros and cons is there anyone here the shoots canon? I don't know if I will shoot movies w/it but I like the fact that I can. Also the t2i is set to release next month. What are you opinions?

I shoot Canon, but mine is a lowly XS, still shoots great pictures,

YOu shouldnt go wrong with either one.

    Jim, ssrprelude has the 50D

Sounds like it only comes down to budget and build now. Compare the differences between the camera and ask yourself do you need those differences.

It depends on how long you plan on keeping the camera. A metal bodied camera will take more abuse than a plastic one. You will have more money invested in quality lenses than in the camera body. I still use a canon AE-1 with the old style lenses that I bought in the 70's. sunrise

Personally I have seen the pictures from the 50d and they are superior in quality compared to my Rebel XT. The 20d was the "same specs" as the Rebel XT and still the 20d took better pictures I thought. My friend bought a 50d when it came out and like ssrprelude, wow, there is a significant difference. When I have the money I want to change over from the Rebel line to the d line.. Just a better camera. I like the features that the rebel has over the d line, but since I wouldnt use it for filming (at least not for the starting part) I find that I would rather spend the money on the d style camera's

I had an xti and upgraded to a 50d. 50d ftw!

I never intended to shoot video or anything, just pictures. I'll probably upgrade to a 7d next year.

But realize that bodies drop in price fast...glass is where it's at!

I shoot a 50D and it is my first and only camera. I love it, it's quick, decent focus system (Nikon is better). Get to know the controls and you will have nice pics. Even in higher ISO's pictures come out good.

As far as lenses go, the Canon Image Stabilizer lenses are worth the price. My wife used one in Alaska! sunrise

Looks like the 50d has won out. Now besides a 50mm prime. What is a good walk around lens.

What are you trying to do while walking around?

You mean you want a zoom lens?

I bought my camera with a 28-135 lens. Works great, all my fish pics are from that lens. I haven't bought a prime lens for fish yet. Jesper may tell you the lens you should get for walking around, something like 24-107....
