A little reminder about the POTM rules....

"Owners of the photos will remain anonymous until voting is closed. Please do not reveal which photo is yours. We want this to be about the best photo, not the best campaigning skills. "

It'll probably be included in next month's contest.

i wonder if people are voting for the fish it self or for the quality of the picture.

It's okay to vote for a fish you like, even if it's not the best quality photo, IMO. If we were a photography forum, it'd be different, but since we are a fish forum I think it's fair to vote either for your favorite fish or favorite photo. I just don't want people voting for a photo based on the popularity of the person who submitted it, or like I said in the rules, the best campaigning skills. :)

I'm about the quality more than the fish, but I'm also anal-retentive too )

I vote for the picture that I like. I don't care why I like it. If it feels good to me, then so be it. I have noticed that my voting trend so far tends to follow my favorite color.

So I may be voting simply because I like the colors in the picture regardless of the fish. Others may vote for the fish. Maybe others like a certain fish's expression. Or an overall feeling for the picture. I don't think it really matters. Even if my favorite choice doesn't win, I still received the pleasure of enjoying a really nice picture and letting whomever took the picture that I (or someone, based on my anonymous vote) liked it.

It may seem a little unfair that someone can take a picture of a favored fish and automatically get tons of votes for it, but it's really no different than having someone like me, who may not go with the group on fish favorites, not voting on that same picture because that particular fish doesn't do anything for me. So that same picture automatically loses votes for the same reason it gets them.

What would make the process most fair is for more people to vote. The more votes there are, the less chance any particular personal fish preferences would skew the voting either way.
