  • I'm not done with HFB....

If you are reading this, you've noticed the changes. It is far from complete...don't worry. We have an entire Content Management System in place, but I've disabled it for now pending more work. I'll try and get it populated with some useful data today (Saturday). But I didn't want to make you all wait any longer than necessary to get back to the forum.

For now, I need to get a couple hours sleep. I have to be at a Memorial Service at noon, and it's almost 6am right now. When I get home from that, I'll work on HFB some more.

I'm sure you all have questions and suggestions, but please wait until I can show you the rest of HFB...

FYI - The arcade and fish profiles are coming back, I just ran out of time tonight.

One thing I'm sure everyone will want to know is "Where is the New Posts button??" Click 'What's New?" in the black bar near the top.

Also, the User CP has been renamed to 'My Profile' and is in the upper right. You'll also find a link to your PMs...it's now called 'Notifications'.

So give it a spin and I'll be back in a few hours to get back to work. Thanks to everyone for being so patient with me...it's gonna be worth it.

I know you will get to this one at some point in the future so I am just listing it here for your check list of things you can cross off later.

On the page you start up coming to there is a button on the blue area called "Today's posts" and subsequent after that when you want to look for it... its called "New Posts" -- What's New stays the same.
I really like "Todays Post" to stay on all pages so you can hit that if you want "today's posts" and What's New for what has changed since I last time logged in.

If we're mentioning abnomalies, the "who's online" links that you click to reverse the sort order don't work. So if you want to sort by time, clicking the time header once sorts it one way. Clicking it a second time is supposed to reverse the sort, but it doesn't. None of the reverses seem to work.

I also miss Today's Posts. I have found if you mark all forums read and hit new posts, the page telling you there are no new posts offers a link for posts in the last 24 hours which is the same as the old Today's Posts.

It's going to take a little time to get used to it. I'm missing the list of friends at the lower left side of the page, I miss being able to thank people for being helpful, and I'm already investigating how I can shrink things down to take up less page size, but that's just me being resistant to change. I'll adjust.

The one thing that really gets me though is that every time I look at new format, I keep thinking "Squishy!" It feels squishy!

Until it's added back, you can bookmark this url for Today's Posts. It updates just like the old clickable link used to.

I put a query for 'Today's Posts' under the Quick Links drop down. I don't want to do a lot of modifying until I get a good handle on what conditions show certain menu views. Creating it under Quick Links contains it to that location in the templates and it feels reasonably safe.

hopefully we can bring back the friends list on the lower left hand side...that was a really good feature. I also agree with the above statements...I really hope we can bring back the "thanks" button on the threads.

Thank you! But don't allow us to yank you around. We can handle being without a few things while you're working on the site. You've done a tremendous job which I appreciate very much. The rest just shows how terribly spoiled you've made us all.

I was afraid this would happen, but I totally understand.

My plan was to have an article posted listing all the things that were temporarily missing, but before I knew it, 6am rolled around and I knew if I kept doing 'one more thing', I'd never sleep. )

Everyone can rest assured that *so far* I haven't run across anything that we aren't going to have. I knew the Post Thanks was going to be missed immediately, and the guy who wrote that add-on has assured everyone that he is working on re-coding it now to work with vB 4.0, so it's just a matter of time. I didn't remove any of the old files or data for that add-on, so hopefully it will just be a matter of upgrading it and things will be restored as before.

The arcade is going to be a different engine, but again, I believe I'll be able to convert everything and keep all the games and existing scores. I'm going to work on that right now.

Overall, the upgrade has gone pretty well and little by little we'll be back on course. HFB is my #1 priority, and I'm doing everything I can to prioritize the way I think you guys would want me to in order to make things as comfortable as possible, as soon as possible.
