  • Caught in Spring Creek near my house.

Went collecting with my puppy dog earlier today... he's not the best fishing partner...
He tends to like to splash where I'm trying to fish...but it was a bunch of fun!
caught a bunch of fish, dont know what a lot of them are... if any of you know, please post.

I saw a few other fish that I wasn't able to catch, I'll have to go back and try for some of them.

I didnt take any home with me... but I am definitely thinking I might want to set up a bigger native tank...

here is me and my fishing buddy, Raider.

Black Tailed Shiner - these guys are everywhere! it was hard to throw the cast net in and not have a few in it.
First throw of the net I probably caught 30+ of these.

Some little fish... they have a purplish shine to them... lots of them around as well.

The smaller Texas Cichlid I caught

The bigger Texas Cichlid I caught.

The Texas Cichlids are really quite pretty, the pictures dont do em justice.

Not sure what this guy is.. had spikey lookin fin on top and a big mouth,

some catfish... had pretty fierce spines that got caught in my net... got him free tho

Not sure what this one is...maybe some sort of sunfish.

and a parting shot of the creek

I think I agree with newb on the bass ID. And the little ones are probably some kind of silverside...I'm guessing...

Great job on the Texas Cichlids! I love that everyone's catching natives now!

I didnt keep the texas cichlids, or any of the other fish... dont really have a place for them...
The pictures really dont do them justice, they have shiney greenish scales, really pretty fish!

Thinking about doing a big tank modeled after the creek... that would be pretty cool I think... have a couple texas cichlids, and a school of shiners...

its spring creek, south of sawdust near 45.

this link is to a little nature preserve that is along the creek... The creek is just a little to the south of that point. There is a little parking lot and a dirt road that goes down towards the creek...
the exact hole I pulled the cichlids out of is within a couple miles of that spot and is a secret!

Bass, Channel Cat and Sunfish. Awesome catch! All with cast net or did you use tackle to catch the bigger ones?

I used a cast net and a dip net for all the fish... mostly the cast net for the bigger ones...

I dont like catching the smaller fish in the cast net.. they tend to get stuck and are hard to get out without sacrificing fish or net...

As for a collecting trip... that would probably be alright... but really its mostly the shiners and little fish.... I've been wandering around there off and on for a year... and I've just now found a place with other fish... so I dont know if there is enough of the bigger fish to warrant a full blown collecting trip...
