  • My Electric Blue Rams Laid Eggs!!

I only had them a week, wasn't expecting action so soon.

Anyone raise rams out there? What should i do now??!!!
They're in a tank with 8 other rams.. should i pull the eggs or leave it in there?

    ahhh... exciting stuff....

Too bad...but exciting, nonetheless! I agree, though, next time I would pull the eggs out.

What were they on? Is that some sort of construction that could be moved out of the tank easily?

It's a bare bottom tank with bits of slate lying everywhere so that they can pick whichever one they want. Also makes for easy removal and cleaning.

the pieces in the pic almost look like small pieces of birch plywood, very neat.
good luck with your next spawn, they are gorgeous little fishes.

saw these at FRII, very nice, i had rams spawn and even fry, but they get too stressed trying to save babies, i would also take it out if you can

Looks like they're at it again... same exact spot as last week.
I think they must have been there at least a day or two because the eggs are darker & seem more developed than the last time when they were totally translucent white.

I removed the eggs and placed them in a fairly strong methylene blue solution courtesy of Dan @ HAW and strong aeration. I have no idea how to raise rams, but I figure since they, like angelfish are S. American cichlids, i'd treat the eggs like i do with angelfish. We'll see what happens.

Closeup of the eggs. You can clearly see a black "line" growing inside the eggs. I think it may be the spinal cord forming.
