  • draining water is so tiring

my tank is too far from any close water source. i have to drain water in buckets and carry them to the bathtub. my back is killing me. changing water for a 75 gallon too. i wonder what is the best way to save time on draining the tank and save my back? get a garden hose to drain?

Until about 2 months ago, i was doing this 3 times a week to 5 tanks...2 of them were 125g.

Go to Lowe's or Home Depot and go to the plumbing isle. There is an isle that has many different sizes of clear plastic hose. They have to cut it to whatever size you need. That is literally all you need to DRAIN the tank. I went and bought an $8 garden hose and $2 sink adapter to FILL my tanks, but it kinks up all the time. Spend the money on a good python, but like i said, if you dont have the funds, the Lowe's idea is the best one i came up with. Good luck.

I have a small pond pump and a coil of clear tubing that fits the pump outlet.
I drop the pump in the tank and pump the old water out,
then I drop the pump in my barrel of make up water and fill the tank back up.

'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

If you are close to a window open up the window, measure the length to the window, buy from lowes/homedepot 1" ID hose. Cheapest you can get because it will not be under pressure. I would also get some 1" PVC pipe and a set of 90 degree elbow joints, and a 1" hose adaptor and the slip/thread adaptor to add to one end so you can attach the hose to the one end of the adaptor and then add a pvc section on the other end to a depth you want to drain to. This will drain your tank in about 5-7 minutes (depending on size -- a 150 gallon drain will take about 7 minutes.) Then a garden hose to fill up the water in the tank again. Does not take long.

              Make your own python.

Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

Here's another link for a great DIY... http://www.houstonfishbox.com/vforum...ad.php?t=24071

I have Version 2 of this design that Fshfrk made for me. I'll try and get some pics today to post. It is fantastic and you can get hose long enough to fit your needs.
