They can live in small bowls, but like tanks from 1-5 gallons. They do not need any filtration, but it is best. If you don't use any filtration, they need their tanks cleaned every three days. Males will have longer fins than females and you can't put 2 males together because they will kill eachother. They should be fed once a day in a small pinch. That is the general info. If you have any questions, just ask.
Fish are people too, they just have gills.

Lets start out with the basics - what you call a betta is actually a hybred of the Betta Splendens species. They have been selectively bread for countless generations to be aggressive and more recently more colorful. There are also 50+ other species of bettas, both bubblenesters and mouth brooders. For information on "wild" species of bettas to to http://smp.ibcbettas.org/

Betta Splendens are available in many different fin patterns, short finned (plakat), veil tail (long fined), delta tail, double tail, HALF-MOON or OVER HALF-MOON and FULL MOON. They are also available in multiple colors. I could spend a couple of hours describing color genetics in bettas but for a quick look at what is available go to http://www.aquabid.com/cgi-bin/aucti...m&&&&&&&pb=350

A web search will provide you with all kind of information on how to take care of them, how to breed them, raise them and medicate them. You can start on my web site.
http://texascitybettas.com and when you have a question that you can't find at least 3 answers for just ask here. We can give you 5 more mostly corect answers or urban legends.
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'
