  • Yet another North Texan...

Greetings! One more of the DFW Fishbox crew...been lurking a couple weeks, finally got enough time to make it official. I have 5 aquariums (5-95g) with various malawi & tang cichlids, dwarf cichlids, catfish, loaches, & plecos (and several smaller "puddle tanks" for bettas, fry, and a frog named "Steve").

Have long-time friends in Houston, so I'm in the area a couple/three times a year--but haven't been to any of the local shops yet (and I'm still disappointed work projects kept me from heading down for the recent club auction).
95g--Cyprichromis, Synodontis Petricola, malawi & tang "odds & ends", loaches, dwarf plecos
20g--Planted; blue rams, apisto. cacuatoides, killifish
    25g, 15g, 5g--growout, fry tanks

Identity crisis...Alias: Cichlidfan of DFW Fishbox (nobody likes a sequel, so... )

Wow we're getting quite a few members from the sister site! Welcome! When you finally get time to come visit we have a google map made of all (or most) of the Lfs in the area. It's in the Community drop down menu.

Thanks so much for the warm welcome! Plus, I even snuck in a couple pics when no one was looking...

We're looking at a hard freeze tonight, my garage tank will drop 10 degrees in the next 8 hours <cringe>

Welcome! What type of cyps do you have?

Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

Kitumba...2M/10F 2.5"-3.25". Still "young lads". Males are opposites, dominant one's the typical dark blue w/yellow tail and yellow ventral tips--the other's blue face, black dorsal, body and fins are yellow...

They gave me a scare yesterday...been feeding primarily NLS sinking pellets and Ken's Golden Pearls (200-300 micron), and occasional frozen BS, and somehow the largest female got two pellets lodged in her throat...was swimming around with her gills locked full open for an uncomfortable amount of time (20 minutes) while she tried to right herself. I may start trickling food in slowly, so they can't gorge themselves...but I worry that may increase aggression/damage during feeding time <shrugs>!?

Also have a poser in with 'em, 2.75" juvenile male Opthalmotilapia Nasuta Kiplii gold, who schools with the cyps and bothers no one. Faint golden color, metallic greens around his edges. He doesn't sit still for pics, but is always out.
