  • Thick In The Ich....HELP!

I found my ich on my Clown Loach today and
wanting some opinions on how to treat scaleless fish.
I've read that I should not use ich meds on scaleless fish
because of the copper poisoning and in most cases
heat and lack of light are the more common ways of treating
this issue. So one good question is how hot is to hot, how much
warm water can these fish take?
    My tank mates are

    2:Red-Fin Sharks
    2:Clown Loachs

Here is a good article on how to treat ich from the puffer forum.

      Another good question is,
I have a UV attched to the out-take and was wondering how much
good do these UV sterilizers do tords ich?

The tank is currently @ 84.7F
How long will these fish last at this temp?

Here's another article on Ich. I've used this salt and heat method on scaled and scaless fish with the same results. It works.

I've never kept that type of puffer so maybe someone who has can chime in. The other fish should be ok at that temp for the duration of treatment.

I don't think the UV will kill the Ich parasite.

                Re: Thick In The Ich....HELP!

The only kind I've personally had success with in treating loaches is a diatom filter and heat.  I changed the DE on a daily basis.  I used a sick tank, and ran the filter for 2 weeks.  All recovered nicely.  Previous to that, I'd tried a good variety of treatments on loaches (clowns, striata botia, yoyo, burmese) and none were ever successful.

Thnx something for me to think about.
Diatom filters on the other hand can/are pretty
                  pricey though.

I just used Ich attack from Kordon Aqua Herbals to get rid of a case of ich that just started in my tank with the garra rufa. Cleared up in 4 days and NO copper.

If you look around online, you'll find where several folks have used a HOT Magnum filter, with the water polishing cartridge, and DE.  DE is cheap at pool supply places, as compared to any fishy places that might sell it.  Here's a link with a few inexpensive options.  DE at leslies pool supply was around $16 for a 25# box if I remember correctly.  25 lbs should last for years and years....

Temp....  the fish will last forever at 84.7.
I am keeping some guppies who where sick (almost ready to go back) in 88 degree water... speeds up the metabolism and allows for the fish to "get over it" quicker :)
