  • what now

my german blue rams spawned unexpectedly yesterday. This would be there first time, and the male is chasing the female away from the eggs, this is normal in new parents isn't it? Should i take her out so she doesnt get beat up real bad or is it safe to keep her in there. Once the fry are born, (if theyre born, fingers crossed   ) i read somewhere that i can feed them extra crushed egg yolk. i cant order any of those daphnia or smaller insect cultures offline, so would this be my best option, and when should i start feeding. I'm trying to look this stuff up on google but my brain is so overwhelmed by this i don't even know what to look up. i know i have my hopes up too much, but its never bad to be prepared!

    tank specs:
    20L
    nitrIte: 0
    ammonia:0
    nitrAte: 0-5 (did waterchange yesterday)
    ph: 7.8
tank mates: 4 otos, 4 pseudomugil gertrudae, 1 pseudomugil furcatus, 2 white clouds, 4 threadfin rainbows, 2 amanos, 2 tiger shrimp

    thank you! luis

    Re: what now

There are special fish foods that are in a liquid form that are made especially for fry.
It's not too expensive and the fry seem to love it.

      Re: what now

I think baby rams are large enough to eat BBS.
Check the LFS for frozen baby brine shrimp.
just break off a small piece, add it to a little water in a small glass and when it thaws, stir it up and pour it in above the fry (it will sink)
but don't feed too much, it can foul the tank.  You can always feed more later.

And the smaller adult fish will eat it also.
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

        Re: what now

Hakari "first bites" works well for them too..  But what I did for my fish was to just powder up (grind very well) flake.

Azoo offers a 9 in 1 Rotifer and Artemia powder for fry.

I ordered some Rotifer the other day in case I get into breeding some small fish again.

            Re: what now

I tried yolk and first bite but I found out that fresh hatch bady brime shrimp is the best.  Fry's growth seems better in that way.

              Re: what now

              i have that bbs eggs thing, but dont know how to hatch them. looked online but its all like "make this contraption" making it too complex to just hatch some shrimp. I got some of those hikari first bites, but it doesnt mattter anymore they ate all the eggs D;
but at least now i know i got me a pair.
