  • Young Green Terrors 1st Try

I have 4 Green Terrors living with a couple Panda Corys in my tank.  The Green Terrors are only about 2 inches to 2-1/2 inches max.  They currently reside in a 55g tank since all of them are miniscule and so far can play nice with each other.  =)

The other day, I came home and checked them out and saw one was chasing all the other ones, constantly returning to this one spot in the center of the tank.

Yep, if you guys look closely on the rock the GT's hovering over, you can see why the attitude change.
Anyway, the eggs were there for two days, then one morning, after feeding them and leaving to go on an errand, I came back 2 hours later and found all the eggs had disappeared.  The GT was acting friendly again and not defending any area.  =(  /cry

I'm not quite sure what happened; i'm pretty sure the other GTs (who were all smaller than the one guarding) couldn't get to it.  The panda corys shouldn't have been a problem.  The filter has a sponge on it.  But yea, just wanted to show you guys.  I didn't really expect them to survive...again the GT is barely even 2-1/2 inch!  Also, I read they should be both guarding, but only one was and wouldn't let any other get near.

Time to wait a couple more months for them to grow up and see if anything happens then!  Just wanted to share my interesting (and horny) GTs.

the GTs will learn from each attempt to raise fry. Thanks for the pictures, it is great to watch fish raise (or at least attempt to raise) their own young. I'm sure you'll get viable fry soon enough! Hundreds of them!

Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

hrmmm quick question... would it make a difference if i feed them or not while they are caring for the eggs?  like... would it spark some type of feeding frenzy to where they might eat the eggs as well?

Naah.. as long as you feed them on a regular schedule fish will come eat and one will defend while the other eats and change out.
Another thing is if you feed the rest of the tank they will not be as interested in the GT eggs.
Now do remember after two days its time for the GT's to move their eggs from the rock to their pit they should have build out for the eggs. (wigglers by now)
Next time they will have learned not to swallow their eggs and simply spit them out into the pit.
