I like to use an icechest because it's insulated and the floor of some trucks gets very hot.
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'
The more the water the better. Air stones would really help! Also try not to put all the fishes in one bucket (if you have a lot of fishes).
It is also advisable to keep the fish in darkness during transportation. Finally, to reduce pollution to the transit water, do not feed fish for 24 hours prior to packaging.
I can't think of anything else right now....good luck with the move!
Like I said.. I kept 3 Petricola's in a 3 gal bucket (cat litter box)
They survived without an issue for 10 hours in it with an airstone.
How many fish are you moving ?
Make sure that you can cover the bucket with a lid, or better use a igloo icechest...
Please notice you dont want to leave fish in a cooler for a long time.. they become EXTREMELY skittish if there is light.. because the white walls will make them go nuts... dont ask how I know.

Every time I move I use a ice chest but never airstones never needed them and im sure they waill be ok without one but if you want you could always buy oxigen tablets from your lfs
depending on the type and size of the fish your transporting......it will depend heartily on that...
i transport in buckets....(kitty litter ones) they have lids that snap shut on them.....i have thanks to very very nice peeps.....a hole drilled in the top and a bubble box tie wrapped on the lid.....if they are small fishies....put some guppy grass in there to give them security.....this works well with up to about 2-3 inch fishies too.....
if they are bigger i always make sure i put a rock out of their environment that makes them feel comfortable in there with them....
this is how i do it.....just my 2 cents worth is all...
Keeping the temperature at a safe level and the oxygen content high always works best.
Oxygen tablets, airstones with battery operated air pumps, and pure O2 in the bags.
Keep the lid tight, and like others have already said, if possible do not feed for a day or so, to minimize the poop factory.

I have transported some rather large Peacocks from League City all the way to Magnolia in a bucket with a lid and an airstone running in it. I think I had 6 to a bucket, all were close to 5"+. No issues whatsoever.
