  • Need help with setting up a tank.

im trying to set up a 60 gal tank, and im interested in using white sand. Does anyone know where i can get some and /or name/type of sand i can use for a fresh water tank? I tried looking in Home Depot but found nothing. Anyone can help me pls?

Pool filter send works well, so does sugar sand. Pool filter sand can be purchesed at a pool supply co. Not sure about the sugar sand though I think Prosper at Aqua Zoo can tell you where to get it. He may even sell it there.

Monkchichi -- welcome to the box

Pool Filter sand (you can see what my new tanks setup with pool filter sand looks like if you click my signature)
Bought from Leslie Pool Supply @ $9.49 / 50lbs bags.

The sand will NOT need any cleaning at all when you put it in to your tanks.

Do remember that pool filter sand is not white but a tan color.

IMO frontosa would ultimately be suited for a larger tank. Some smaller cichlids would work better.

If you get Frontosa's you are going to need a big tank, minimum a 6ft'r if you want to really make them happy.  Remember the male will reach a nice 10-12" when fully grown (going to take about 2-3 yrs but they live for about 10-12)
I would recommend what Tim is saying a common Malawi or small fish Tanganyika tank setup.
