  • Blue Silicone

I have a planted comunity tank in my livingroom and It's starting to look really nice, but it was a used tank that my son found at a garage sale and the silicone in the corners is tinted blue.   It never bothered me before (when it was in my fishroom) but now I would really like to clean it up.  Is there a way "bleach" the blue out or will I have to replace all of the silicone ?? :bs?!?!:
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

    Re: Blue Silicone

I have never had to do something like this.  If they have white, black, and opaque silicones, I dont see why they would not have blue.

      Re: Blue Silicone

Internet searches come up with lots of Blue RTV for automotive, so not sure it would be ok for Aquatics or not.

I would think you would have to replace the silicone. I would think if you tried to bleach it then the bleach might seep back into the tank. If the bleach could get it out.

I think he is wanting to go back with clear silicone.  It's tinted blue because someone used Clout in the tank if I'm not mistaken.  It tints the silicone a light blue color when you do it and it doesn't come out.

Methylene blue and malachite green will both stain silicone. Don't think it can be bleached out. Probably permanent.

What are the facts? Again and again and again--what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore devine revelation, forget what "the stars foretell", avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable "verdict of history"--what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? You pilot always into an unknown future; facts are your only clue.

              That's what I was thinking.

Yeah I am going to agree here..  Methylene blue is what was used in the tank and there is no way to remove it unless you scrape the silicone out and reseal the tank
