  • Round 2 with these German Rams

These guys must like each other!  This is the second time they have laid eggs in about
2 weeks... and this time around they are out in the front.  Meet Mr. Big and Big B*tch.  I hope nobody
    is offended!

very nice, congrats, when my rams bred, the male did not make it from all the stress of keeping hungry mouths off the fry!

The eggs are all shaking now...  Some have fallen off of the wood and the parents are
putting them back up in there place.  But I haven't seen any little fry yet!

the shaking is the tail of each fry that is developing.  they will continue to shake until everyone is off the wood, and at which point the parents should have dug out a little pit somewhere.  They will move all the fry to that spot, and keep them there until they are free swimming.  They will then start venturing out to find food for them swimming first above them.  Then later they will simply among them all.  This will continue for about two weeks while they are getting bigger and bigger.  Depending on when they ween them off, they will stay with their parents for about a total of 6 weeks old.  At this point they should all be independent and not care if the parents are around any longer.   The parents should only take a few days from then to fatten back up again and decide to give you another spawn if all works well.

Cool thanks for the info... My girlfriend noticed the little tails early this afternoon.  It would be great if at least
2 or 3 make it that far.

You might want to wrap some foam or old panty hose around that filter intake.
Unless you think there too big to get sucked in.

                    Congratulations

He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

Re: Round 2 with these German Rams

Its an 8.5 gallon tank.  I'm thinking I will put them in a baby nursery inside the tank.  Going to try feeding them
crushed shrimp pellets since I have some on hand...  We'll see how it goes.

I shut the filter off temporarily because a few were sucked in according to the g/f.

Uh oh. Maybe try putting some panty hose or sponge thing over the intake of the filter? That could help to not suck them up.

Good luck! I would try to keep them with their parents as long as possible, unless of course they start eating them... 8O

Well I have bad news.. I tried to leave them with their parents and they were all eaten today!!!
Next time I will scoop em and put them in their own tank or maybe a nursery.  They had been
putting the fry in their mouths and spitting out to relocate but I guess they got hungry.
