  • Lets see your betta tanks!!!

so the place i am working at is thinking about doing remodeling, not sure yet, but they will be getting rid of couple shelfs that looks like this http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40047675 but its a heavy duty ones, bigger and thicker shelfs, and its suppost to hold like upto 50lb per cube, so i am thinking about getting one of those shelf and use it to hold betta tanks, probly 8 of them, in 2.5 tanks, so i would love to see some ideas on other has done with their tanks...  planted will be great, but anything is welcome...

    Betta Bunkhouse
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

PP -- do you breed in the Sun jars or do you just keep your betta's this way ?
For breeding I am sure you will need a few more so you can keep all those babies separated while growing out to see what they look like right ?

That is my new bunkhouse for special show bettas

This Old Betta Bunkhouse is the one I used for grow out.  I try to keep the best 10 out of each spawn.  I'd rather have the best 10 from 10 spawns than only a 100 from one spawn. However, I tore this one down when I moved and have yet to put it back up and running.

wow PP, i knew you were the resident hfb betta expert, but didn't know you had such elaborate set ups, that is awesome, do you keep/breed any betta that are not betta splendens?  maybe mouthbrooding or some other varieties, i would love to add a betta or a pair to my planted community, but don't want the large/flowy betta splendens because they can't really drag their tails around and get nipped

currently my only betta (a very common blue one) is in a breeder box on my 30 gallon, this way he still gets good filtered water but no one can really hurt him
            65 gallon - ADA 120p - planted
55 gallon - AGA standard - mix cichlid
            30 gallon tall - eclipse acrylic - semi-planted

            live and let live

Re: Lets see your betta tanks!!!

A few years ago, I kept F1 colonys of Betta falx and Betta picta in 15g "natural" tanks (brown gravel, driftwood, java fern).  I enjoyed it for a while but to keep them happy you must provide a lot of hiding places and very soft, low pH environment.  I used rainwater & oak leaves to condition the water.   By the way, the Male betta holds the eggs & spits them out in 9 days.

But after I wore the "new" off of them, I decided to spend my time on more colorful fish (Kribs, Platties, Swordtails)
