  • A little Eheim Help please

Ok, I bought this eheim 2250 for my 100 gallon... So I am waiting on the tank to come in.. and I want to run this pump on an exsisting tank to get the bio going....... Jump start....

I set this thing up... 1st I can't seem to get it to prime.. and create a siphon...  2nd   Does Eheim use their own equipment, I mean this set up is a joke... here is a picture.. what am I doing wrong here.... this looks terrible......

does anyone have a picture of their set up .... I can't believe they can't make that hose a little smaller and more flexible.. and the elbow..... I have seem nicer plumbing on a swimming pool.... are we serious?

any help please..... I am not a complete idiot... maybe I am missing a piece..and the instructions.... at the moment not happy..
Had about 900 gallons now I am tired and selling them off...

Is this a new in the box Ehiem?

Used hoses can get stiff after a while.  They also sell a nice U-section and U-pipe.  I would prolly cut the hose for a better fit when you put it on the new tank.

Make sure that the seal is good.  Does it have a O-Ring gasket?

I finally got it to prime.... now what to do about the cosmetics????????  and the clamps they supply could they be any bigger? I am setting this up on a tank in my living room.. so I want it to look nice.... I am gonna have to come up with some quick fixes for some of this..... I was going to drill the tank from the bottom and hide all this .. but was convinced that this pump would be fine for the setup I was going for...and was discouraged from drilling. live and learn...

If you were thinking of drilling make sure the bottom is not tempered glass.  You will have a mess.

I have Eheim 2213's, 2215's 2217's and a 2229. I find the intake and return pipes extremely helpful in maintaining a clean look for your tubing. Here is a link to many of the accessories that you may find helpful. http://www.aquariumguys.com/eheim-filter-parts.html. Check out CityPets for their stock because I find they have the most reasonable local prices for Eheim parts.

If you need to prime next time...get a guart container and drop the return line (disconnect from spray bar first) into it at ground level. Start the Eheim..the container will begin to fill with return water. Lift the container to your tank and drop the line into the tank. Pour the water from container into your tank. Then reconnect to the spray bar. Quite easy actually and doesn't require  using a priming accessory or risk getting water in your mouth. Hope this helps.

Re: A little Eheim Help please

To Prime a Eheim -- I just do it the manual way... suction a quick draw on the output line.  This will get the water starting to drain into the canister.. once the canister is filled up you can start the pump and everything will continue normally.

Buy a couple of Eheim parts like jklntx has shown the u tube for the intake and the tubing for your exhaust.
I dont know what parts comes with the 2250 but I would buy a u tube for your intake side

Return Spout for 400494 Tubing (1/2")
Spray Bar Return for 400494 Tubing (1/2")
Eheim intake tube for 400794 (1")

There might be a kit for the intake with the correct tubing.. could not see it.  Check with your local LFS.  I know you are in La Porte which means City Pets on the other side of town is not easy to get to.  If you want me to since I work down the street from City Pets I can check on them if they have the items in stock.

Re: A little Eheim Help please

I have several of the large Eheim canisters 2250,2260,and 2262.  The 2250 is a bit more of a pain to setup because it does not have the drain valve the 2260 has and it does not have the block valves that the 2262 are equiped with.

In your setup the first thing I would do is cut the hoses with a box knife for a more exact trim and fit so that the canister fits under the aquarium.  I would consider purchasing the "794" 1" Double Block Valves or go to your Hardware Store and get PVC 1" Union Ball Valves so that your prime in the suction line will never be broken during maintenance.  This way you can work on the filter and not have to manual restart the siphon each time.

The 1250 pump is the 1/2" or "494" Eheim tubing size.  They make return kits in the clear grey for this size, and they also make u-tube returns for this size as well that are more commonly seen on Eheim 2217.  This would help some on the discharge side to clean it up.

Unfortunately I have not seen a kit for the 1".  My suggestion there is to get another set of suction cups to help clean up the appearance more.

The Canister runs great, it is just a pain getting it setup.  You will not be disapointed once it is up and running.

                Best of Luck!

We thought about doing that and was warned to watch the humidity/moisture coming off the tank and messing with the TV...just passing along the warning.  :)

Re: A little Eheim Help please

Just an idea you might consider one day..

I just purchased the inlet piece for a 2260 Canister.  I did this, so I could use the 1262 or 1260 pump and put it on my 2250 canister and replace the 1250 pump. Thei is the piece that goes from the lid of the canister to the inlet of the pump.

The inlet piece was only like $12

Just some ideas for future improvements down the road..

Hope the filter has turned out well for you..
