Hey everyone I have decided to try my hand at a native tank or two. I found an article about some native collecting spots not too far from town, that have some interesting fishin them. Like Golden topminnows, Pygmy Sunfish, Least Killifish, and also Sailfin mollies, and Mosquitofish. Also some brackish fish like sheepshead minnow and Bayou Killifish and Rainwater Killifish. since im thinkin of tryin a brackish tank too im super interested in getting some collecting soon. the spots are near Winnie on the way to Bolivar pennisula (a drive i know well) And if nothing else its an excuse to go to the beach for a day if nothing is gettin caught. Im looking for my frst trip to try Next Thursday after i get a few more tanks going this Thursday. Anyone who would like to come with, let me know. I understand that its not a prime day to go collecting (being in the middle of the week) but its the only time i got . But i am definately looking to have fun on the trip and hoeflly get some interesting little critters. Im especially wanting some pygmy sunfish. If you are wanting to come what are you looking for in particular?

Re: Native Fish collection Trip
David, I love collecting, but I am not off during the week. I know some great brackish places in Freeport, and Duessen Park in Lake Houston is a great place for mollies, golden killifish, sunfish, and even pickerel. I am taking a week off the end of May. Would you be interested in going then?PLECOS SUCK!

Re: Native Fish collection Trip
Ok update on the trip. I am still planning on going next thursday, but i went and got some equipment for the trip. Things i purchased, I got some waiters and some heavy rubber boots (for stompin in the mud), I also picked up some portabl aerators/ and another bait bucket, plus lids for two 5 gallons buckets to use them as more bait buckets. I also picked up a minnow trap/ and also a Minnow seine, I figure there are plenty of things that should not be able to escape us now. for annyone interested Vinle waiders at academy are under 10 bucks and rubber boots are like 12 to 15 dollars. thats not too bad to stay dry while netting muck and fish up :wink:Never fear I is here

Re: Native Fish collection Trip
Spot,
I am sure that Taipan has a fishing license for all fish found in Texas.. I am positive he would not go out there to collect without one. Texas Wildlife would have a cow if he is found without one.

Re: Native Fish collection Trip
Here in Texas, they (fishing license's) are sold in the summer, if you buy one now, it will expire at the end of August. If you buy it on Sept 1st, it will be good until next September.
You could purchase a one day permit however, just an FYI.
