  • BettaHabari Spring 08 International Betta Show

For those of you who are looking for some exceptional bettas, BettaHabari, the Houston Chapter of the International Betta Congress (IBC)
is sponcering an International Betta Show & Auction.   Plan on visiting Megans on April 31 and ask for directions to "The Back Room"
We will have a hundred+ outstanding bettas.  The Auction Prices are very reasonable and there is no shipping & handeling charge.
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

    Ummm, April doesn't have 31 days  :?

    Do you mean May 31st?

Re: BettaHabari Spring 08 International Betta Show

I would guess that it's next month since this month is closing in pretty fast.

PP usually gives a bit more heads up then that.

Re: BettaHabari Spring 08 International Betta Show

May 4th is the last day of the ALA in San Antonio so I wouldn't think it would be the same day, but then again, I could be wrong.  The IBC site shows May 31st.

Re: BettaHabari Spring 08 International Betta Show

I'm sure going to try to see the show !  Can't get much easier for me than Megan's, though I'm thinking maybe they'll need some extra parking...

How many fish are you entering, Phish?  Are all the entries usually left there till the end of the show, or till the auction begins, or does it get too crowded for them all to stay? I'd hate to miss seeing any of them.

Re: BettaHabari Spring 08 International Betta Show

                  Typical show schedule

Thursday Bettas arrive at the Show chairman's place and are checked for disease and torn fins. (usually shipped FedEx overnight)
Friday evening show tables, bowls & water are set up and entries are checked in.
Saturday morning local fish arive and are checked in.
Saturday fish are on display and open to the public.
Saturday fish are judged by IBC standars by IBC trained & registered Judges (we have 1 in LA, 1 in DFW and 2 in Austin.)
Winners are listed and uploaded to the internet.  Breeders receive points for 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place and the breeders with the highest yearly total points in each division are awarded placks. Also the top 10 breeders (highest total points in all catagories) are recognized at the Anual IBC convention
Saturday evening after the judging (thank goodness it's finnished) we enjoy a Mexican Buffet & cold beer.
Late Saturday night or early Sunday morning, all the fish that are "return to sender" (not auctioned) are seperated from those that are for auction.
Sunday We auction bettas. (fish are marked auction yes or no before judging so some winners are on the auction block)
After the auction fish that are to be returned are bagged and boxed and ready to go to FedEx first thing Monday morning.

Shows are scheduled and hosted by an IBC chapter, every other weekend in the fall and spring.
We avoid shipping our buties in weather extreems (summer & winter)
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

I dont really know howto care for Bettas.
Maybe I could learn a trick or two on them at the show.
Cause if I get some I will trying to breed them.
