  • Algae in a planted tank

I bought Soni a new light system a T6 108W and the algae as bloomed expontentially along with the growth of the plants. We have 1 long fin algae eater. So my question is should we get more to control it and how many? It is a 55g with 6 angels, about 15 tetras, 2 botias, and 1 long fin.

Do more water changes, keep the tank cooler, add a bag of seachem purigen to the mix.

Adding more fish to try and remedy it will only add to the problem or build up to a bigger one.

Can you give us a bit more info about the tank?

How heavily is it planted? One or two plants, here or there? Or is it pretty densely planted?

Are you using any ferts or CO2?

      How long is the photoperiod?

What kind of bulbs are in there? (Brand, K-rating, any other info you have)

      What kind of algae?

Fairly heavy on the plants but not full. No CO2 but I use ferts during water changes. Green algae

So you are dosing only once a week right?
How long are you leaving the lights on for?
What kind of filtration/circulation do you have going on in the tank?

I have a 75G rated Penguin HOB. We leave the lights on for about 5 hours a day and there is not really a light from the windows either. I do water changes about ever 2 weeks or so
