  • setting the 100 back up....

Okay, wow...I haven't been on in forever. Sadly, I had sold most of my equipment off and gave the hobby up after a recent job transfer. However,
I have just been transfered to Galveston. I must say, all of that water has me thinking....it's time to start the 100 gallon back up.

Here is the problem. I just rented a 2 story loft....it runs from the second to third floor.
Therefore, i don't think that the floors can hold a 100 gallon full of water. You all know how Galveston is...kinda old.

So...I'm looking for suggestions. My friends keep suggesting tree frogs...bleh!
    What about fiddler crabs? mudskippers?
There has to be some type of aquatic life that won't require me to fill the tank all the way up.

Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.
I forgot how much I loved this hobby.

I live in a pier & beam house that was built in the 40's. I have 180 gallon tank without any problems.
I also have a room full of different size tank in it to.
So go with the 100 gallon tank & put some real nice discus in it.

I'm wanting to say that Armthehomeless, our resident mathematician, did a calculation of what each larger size tank weighed per square foot and it wasn't near as much as I thought.  I had a 75 and a 60 in the dining area on the third floor of an apartment complex with no problems.

Locate the beams in your floor or roof...  this will tell you which way you want to put your tank.  You want to cross the most beams as possible.

          That should solve your issue.

PS your square foot weight -- please note your refrigerator and washer/dryer weight more usually than a tank when it comes to per square foot

really? so...its a possibility that the 100 gallon may be okay in the living room?!?

Each house is different. Make note of load bearing walls and the direction the beams are running. Zulaab does make some good points. On a side note, I am putting a 210 on the second floor. I just need to figure out how I can get it up there.

Long time no see alexrae! How's my good friend ramius doing?

As for the tank.....well hell you're in galveston! I'd start collecting and start a native sw tank!

You could do a pauladrium which would allow for tree/poison dart frogs and fish!

lol, ramius is doing very well. (:
i got burned out on saltwater....too much work, not enough time.
But with the new job, it's the same money just less work. I may get bored.

Back to the tank though, I guess I will buy a stud finder and try to figure out where to set this baby up.
On a side note, not to sound naive...what in the world is a pauladrium?  8O

A pauladrium is a tank that has the top out of water and the bottom in water.  This will mimic more natural conditions of a river.  Some people keep them to have frogs and lizards running around the top and fish in the bottom.
