  • Cichlidfan became a Great Grandparent again

Well after having been so excited about the fact my yellow lemons where holding and my Sunshine female holding I had not been looking lately at my Tanganyika tank.. the one with my yellow leleupi's and CF's Brichardi off spring.  Well Tonight I took a look in there and wow the tank is full of small fry in there swimming around.  I am thinking they have to be 3-4 weeks old which means they must have been hiding out while I did my water change two weeks ago because that was the last time I really looked at the tank.  Wow am I excited.  Now instead of having about 20 Brichardi juvi's I am positive there are at least a pair and now ad additional 20+ fry all over the tank about 1/2" long and not grouped anymore so they have grown quite well.  I will try and take a few pictures soon.  The kids (my roomates kids) went nuts when I pointed them out... I am SO excited..

In other news I still cannot see any fry in the yellow labs tank.. and its been two days since I saw the first fry get dispatched from the tank.. but there are still 3 females holding in that tank.  I need to rearrange some more because I need to put some more small pieces of slate in there so they have hiding places.

I am so happy to hear about your latest find, it is very exciting when you find a new batch of fry. The fun keeps going and going too, don't be surprised to see another new batch in another week or two..... :)

thank you :)  Remember I got like 20 of them from you originally.. they have yet to throw anyone out of the colony yet but I have a feeling from what I am seeing it will not be long.   Yes I am super excited to see babies moving around and the fact that I had not expected them to breed yet, I was super happy to see them swimming around.   They are already attempting to eat the 1mm NLS.. so I am thinking I better get some of the 0.3mm grow stuff for them :)  The only thing that worries me about that tank is that I need to clean it soon and I am worried that I am about to suck up a ton of small fishies :(

Hopefully this will not be the case ... just worried...

At some point down the road, you may consider them a pestilence in a way, they are so cute in the beginning, but then they start taking over the tank...and before you know it....they are the only ones in there.....at least that's how it was for me.

But still, it really is a treat to watch them grow and take care of their young, they are quite fierce and loyal to them too....

                Have Fun.....Papa....

My Thought is that at some point I am just going to break down the tank.. Fish them all out.. then take say all the smaller ones and put them in a second tank letting them grow out until they are about 2 inches in size.  Once done with this give/sell them and or take them to an LFS and get some NLS for them.
