Just recently purchase a ehiem filter that was use for sw, I am cleaning it out to use for fw. I rinse out the container, hoses, media, sponge. I will put in new filter screen and ready to cycle my 125g tank. Any other advise b4 I start cycling. Thanks everyone in advance...

Pretty much just put a good cleaning on that filter and you should be good. I just bought a sw set up with a 2217 and it is just filthy inside. If I were you I would just clean the sponge really good or even replace it, replace the carbon if there is any in it and clean the ceramic or biofiltration and be done with it. Run some really hot water though the hoses to get as much gunk out as you can as well. I think there was a lengthy discussion on here about how to clean hoses, you might do a search in some of the older threads.Comment
