  • Yellow Lab holding

One of my Labidochromis caeruleus females are holding.  I am thinking since she is pretty big this is the one I got from the geeks.  She is hanging out with the dominant male who won that battle yesterday..  His prize was giving the gift of life :)
I dont have any pictures yet.. I will try to get some done later this week...  Well this means I have the yellow lab holding and Friday I had the Chipoka sunshine female start holding.

Getting all excited about this :) :) :)   Tanks up and running for 10 days and I have a female in each tank holding :)

Should I call the authorities or something....LOL

Forgive my intrusion, but I noticed one of my Yellow Labs holding too.   It's only been about two years.

          Congrats Jesper!

Must be something in the air :)  I am just so happy the fish have started to breed. :) :)
It has taken me a while to get back from "The convict Fry" on 6/21/07 as being the last fish to breed.. then again I have had nothing but juvi's since then until 10 day ago..

              Re: Yellow Lab holding

              More good news :)
Her other female friend.. has decided to join her in holding eggs...  I came home last night from work and looked in the 75, thinking to myself, damnit that damn black sand has just made my tank cloudy again..  then I noticed why... the main male had brought in the dump truck from outta state and re-arranged his whole house..  holy moly had he moved A LOT of sand away from under the right hand side of the tank.
(Yes I know.. you all want pictures and I am going to take some tonight)

Obviously the smaller female liked the new digs and allowed him to give her more than a mouthful....  of eggs to hold...
So this weekend... I am going to have to setup either the 40 back up and let them spit in that or pull the twenty out of storage...

Heaters and sponge filters coming my way soon -- if I want to keep some of these little buggers.

ok I have a yellow lab and a Electric blue that are both holding. Not sure what to do. I have tanks set up and ready to go....should I move them into the 20g by themselves??

                  Re: Yellow Lab holding

                  Chris,

Its up to you.  Yellow labs will eat their young but there are many out there who dont do anything regarding their young as they will breed often if given the chance.
If you move them to their own tank wait until they have been holding for 2 weeks.

Make your 20 with the water from the main tank.  You want to wait for two weeks as their is less of a chance mother will spit as soon as she is caught and the young not having a chance to survive.  If she has held for two weeks you can move her somewhat safely over.  When you catch her do so not chasing her all over the tank..  Try to get her to move into a corner and slowly catch her in the net.   In my tank you have to remove 99% of the rocks to get a chance to catch fish.  This is how I got my three sick fish out.

You can put a divider in the tank and put two females in a 20 holding.  Do not let the two females be together as I have seen two females start chasing each other and you will make the weaker one end up spitting.

I responded in another post that yellows hold for about 21-25 days and electric iceberg/Ahli's for about 23-27 days.
