Aulonocara sp. "Stuartgranti Maleri" Chipoka

My Tanks are up -- see other story posted earlier this week with tank pictures.
With the setup I decided to pick up from a good friend a group of Aulonocara sp. "Stuartgranti Maleri" Chipoka peacocks.
Saturday late night we put the fish in the tank.
Thursday night, I noticed the male starting to dig.. wondering what he was going to do with that big hole.
Friday night, I noticed he had made it dig all the way to the glass.  I looked at the tank, and as I am grabbing my NLS to feed the fish, I noticed one of the fish hiding, who had till this day come to the surface, and want food each time I approached the tank.

Yes I am excited.. well why you ask.. these are my first mouthbrooders whom I have at the house, who has decided my tank is good enough for their party to last into the night.

congrats!  I *think* my albino taiwan reef is holding too - everyone was gobbling food and she was just watching.  It's a good feeling isn't it??!

Those are some purty fishes u got there!  They should make beautiful babies  :)

Thank you all :)  Yeah I am thinking she should be spitting out some nice looking Fry in 21-25 days from now.  I am going to leave her in the tank with the others for about 14 days and then I am going to do a 80% water change on my 10g guppy grow out tank..  Replacing the water with water from the 70.  She will then be gently caught and moved in there for her remaining week and then we will see her spit hopefully my first batch out.  I hope I can see the difference between a Chipoka fry and a guppy fry

We will see... I have a spare 20g tank I might setup for her so she can go in there.  We will see.

When she does spit in that 10g, she will be purty hungry and those guppy fry will be looking like fried chicken.

They are looking good Jesper, nice pics.  That male is gonna just get better as he gets bigger.

Raul -- Thank you for your advice..  What I will need to do I suppose to drag the 20g out of storage and set it up for her to spit into...  Then there will not be a problem -- just need a heater, a sponge filter, tops, lights -- damn almost nothing.. in two weeks time -- and all this on a budget of 0 dollars.
This is going to suck...  ohh well.

You don't need all that stuff. I can let you borrow (keep) a sponge filter and air pump. I'll bring some to you tomorrow.
I've never had heaters, lights, or hood on my fry tank. If you are worried about the fish jumping, just dont fille the tank all the way up.

Or you could just get some from Mike.

heater:  heat rises, place the tank as high as possible.  Sunshine works, but move away from window if we get chilly weather.  
$0  

sponge filter:  car wash sponge, piece of pvc or other hollow fish-friendly tube.  I've used a length of 3/4" hose for this when necessary.  
$3 maybe (less than a pack of smokes)  Or take Tim up on his offer - I can also give you one then cost is -0-

tops:  pieces of anything that will cover the tank - styrofoam, screen, wood, cardboard etc.  If using wood or cardboard, wrap in saran or trash bag and tape tightly.  I'm sure Mike probably has a chunk of styro from a fish shipment - use that with rock or gallon jug of water on top.

Light:  Again, sunshine can be your friend, and provides it's own timer.  otherwise any sort of lamp will do for the time being.  Do you really need one anyway?  Unless you put the tank in a closet, they won't be in total darkness.

You'll manage - many of us here will help if we can.  :)

My Betta bowl runs a consistant 69 degree's....  I dont think the Chipoka female will be even happy in water like that.
Yes my room mate is the one who controls the heat in the house and he likes life COLD.  (dont look at me.. I love it too)

Yes Mike I know you very well, but I didnt want to take advantage of you.. but I will turn for your assistance when the time comes.

Girlgeek -- there will be fry available once they are the right size to leave the house :)

I have ways for lights.. and a top..  its mainly heater and sponge filter I am going to need that I can think of :)  I have airpumps so no problem there.
(I am breaking down my 40 breeder today so I can take a few things from it.. but there is no heater in it (it went into the 70 when I installed it)

In short.. I am looking for a heater and a sponge filter.

You just need a small heater for, say, a 20 gallon or so?  Let me know what you need and I'll dig around to see what we've got.
