  • CASCADE 700 CANISTER FILTER

I just ordered a CASCADE 700 CANISTER FILTER

"This high volume filter is excellent for large tanks. Filters at 185 gallons per hour and is rated for aquariums up to 65 gallons.  This filter combines all the best features of all the other canister filters to give you a quality filter. Comes with a self priming button, extra large baskets for media, 360 degree rotating valves that disconect in a snap. These filters have become the leaders in the Japanese market!
Comes complete with all filter media to get you started."  Sounds good to me...

So, Ken's Fish usually has good stuff, I am going on that assumption...I don't have the money to get the top quality; has anyone an opinion on the Cascade canister filter?
I don't expect it to last a lifetime, but I need some good filtration on my tanks.

I have 2 Whisper 40-60 HOBs, one is on my 55 with a 20 HOB; that tank sometimes gets murky, and I want to put the Cascade on my 55 with a 20 HOB. I have a 42 Hex that I'm putting my Eheim Ecco on, with a 20 HOB as the overkill filter. :)
I expect that I will get what I need from a canister rated at 185 GPH. Has anyone had problems with the Cascade canister?

I dont know anything about cascade filters...  Just remember that just like HOB filters.. if you dont clean them they will slow down in the amount of water they will filtrate.

i think that the oddysea canister that cichlidfan bought for about 69$ i think worked well in his 75 .....maybe he can elaborate on that some more for you....but if your looking for a cheap canister i thought that one was a good one.....???

          Re: CASCADE 700 CANISTER FILTER

I have had an Eheim for 9 months or so...I use the water flow to judge when to tear it down for a cleaning.
The brown slime in the hoses is the deal killer, when I clean that out the flow doubles. I don't let the media get too dirty, but I just run poly fiber and bio balls w/a sponge on the bottom. My HOB has the charcoal, etc for the fine tuning. I will probably use more media on this filter, but I do keep an eye on my water cleaners, it's the critter's only source of clean daily water and aeriation.

            Re: CASCADE 700 CANISTER FILTER

That Filter is made by pen-plax i think that is the name of the company. I have 1200 on a 90 gal and works great the
only thing is watch when you attach the hose and valves to the filter make sure they are not cross threaded. You will
have water leeking from around the o ring seal if not threaded right.  Thats the only trouble I have had with the
            filter is the connections.

              Re: CASCADE 700 CANISTER FILTER

Thanks, Lumpy. I am familiar with mechanical stuff, and I will set it up carefully while keeping an eye on the seal when I remove the hoses for cleaning.
I am assuming the hook ups for most canister filters are similar, and I am a whiz at tearing down my Eheim Ecco for cleaning.
It was a " 'Ken's Fish'  has done me right for quite a while/ Eheim and Fluval canisters are double/triple what I'm paying " kinda dilema...I already ordered the critter, about $65 with shipping, so I was just checking to see if anyone had a specific problem with the quality of the Cascade canisters.
              I guess I'll see soon enough... :)
