Is it possible for me to kill the fish by pouring (added )water in to hard.... I did not think about it, I was replacing water and pouring in 5 gallons from a bucket... I just poured it in without thinking about hurting the fish..... when I was done..I had 2 floaters...... doyou think I killed them or were they on the way to death already? this is only the 4th day...... and I have done 2 water changes... I am following some instruction that I read... I test the water and the nitrite is in the first stress zone.... everything else is OK

Re: pouring water to fast?
Did you treat the water with dechlorinator? Whats the temperature of the water?
You said the Nitrite was in the first colour, what about the Ammonia?
I wouldnt have thought that in 4 days the ammonia would have become dangerous. How much are you feeding, and how often?

I do not have a amonia test ... I feed them a pinch and they eat all of it... I feel like maybe they need more food.. but I have been cautionedon that..... yes I put stress coat... I am putting in warm water ..It feels the same but could be off just a bit...Had about 900 gallons now I am tired and selling them off...

Re: pouring water to fast?
i agree not to many fish. but what bacteria did you use to start it. was it the one dose kind or are you suppolse to put it in everyday for 7 days?? i quick cycled one with the quick starter and i had to dose everyday for 7 days. so check and see. if not then like brown said maybe you got a dead one in there

Re: pouring water to fast?
Actually doing water changes will delay the cycle some - but will also be healthier on the fish during the cycle. Id get the ammonia droptest kit tomorrow and check your levels. If its high, then your either feeding too much or have a dead fish hidden somewhere in the tank.
Where did you buy the fish?

Re: pouring water to fast?
Cope... I am going to recommend STRONGLY you go down to your local fish store and pick up a coral Life or odessey digital thermometer.. they will run you between $5-$8 -- this is a MUST for when you dont know what your water temp coming out of the tap.
I know stress coat is good.. but when you have let it run out I would recommend strongly again you buy either Prime or Amquel Plus. Those products are better.

Re: pouring water to fast?
I ask because your tank might be fine, its just some fish arent healthy when theyre bought at places like walmart/petco/petsmart.
Means as your new to the hobby, when you buy fish from ANYWHERE, make sure you quaranteen them before adding them to your tank. It sucks when you add a fish to your tank and it wipes out the entire tank. Remember to add dechlorinator, try to make the temperature roughly the same, and do weekly water changes after the cycle.
