  • how about current? & bubbles

2nd day new guy here again... Ok so I got some cloudy water, all points taken on previous post... So I am wondering, I got the canister filter and was informed that I need to airiate the water since the canister does not produce bubbles... so I got one of those 10"sticks that make a wall of bubbles... looks cool... but do I need it..do I run it all the time? is that too much air?  and the output of the canister is on the back wall of the tank and shooting down... you can see the fake plants moving.. also a note... I got my first floater...... and 1 have 3 missing neon tetras.... suspect, my gold gouramis ate them.... any thoughts on the above...... and really guys and gales.. thanks so much for helping me out.... this is a super forum.. Cope
Had about 900 gallons now I am tired and selling them off...

bubble dont make oxygen in water.  surface agititation creates Oxygen exchange.  point the spray bar across the surface to move the water visibly on surface.   i use a buble wand in most of my tanks just for extra surface agitation

cope.....it's not a bad thing if you like the effect of the bubble wand....i had one in my 29 bow and my fishies liked it.....
so go with what you feel good about, that's the fun part of each person's tank set ups....yes you can turn it to the proper amount that you want it to look like....and yes run it all the time.....it does help with aireation of the tank water.....i personally now run sponge filters for double the effect....they not only put extra o2 in the water but they prefilter as well.....
as for the floaters...i'm so sorry to hear about that....and yes i would suspect the gouramis....i had one that was very aggressive and i had to remove "bubba" from the tank.....
no problem with helping you....it's what we're all here for....so never feel bad about asking questions.....

Hmm...not sure your gouramis ate them. They might be aggressive, but I wouldn't bet on them eating the neons. Neons seem to be more sensitive to cycling than other fish out there, so it could be that.

I just read your other welcome post (how did I miss that??) and your other post about cycling and you stated that you put some feeder fish in the tanks. When did you add the feeders, and when did you add the gouramis and the tetras? It might very well be that the feeders brought something into the tank - they are never very healthy to begin with.

Did you buy any test kits?

Oxygen is the movement of the surface water that creates O2 in to your tank.  I have two canisters that move a lot of water in my tank at home and my fish seems very healthy... they don't look at all lethargic.  There are no bubbles in the tank at all (they seem more skittish when there are bubbles in the tank which is why I try not to.   I might add a Maxi-jet 1200 to get some more water movement but I am not going to use the venturi on it.
