Does anyone have any idea of what options maybe available to me for repair for my used FX5? Is there a LFS that has any repair service of sorts? Any information would be appreciate folks.

Did you take apart the impeller to make sure it was free of debris and free spinning?
Also might wanna check your connections, output/input at both the tank and the filter itself.
Don't know about FLuval but on my eheims there are gaskets on the trays and such to direct the flow in a certain path through the media before exiting the output....if those are cocked or whatnot the flow is diminished.
On the FX5, the impeller is in a small housing unit, that requires a screwdriver to get too. That will be my next option if there is no place that works on these around town here. I was thinking maybe I could send it back to Fluval, but I don't think used units will be repaired for free of course, and it will most likely cost an arm and a leg to repair. So, I just might have to go in there myself and see what I can see.
I need a large capacity filter on my 210 to keep my water quality high, what filter would you recommend EK?

On both of my FX5's I put all my media into media bags, becuase even the fine or small particles can fall thru the big *** holes in those media baskets and make it to the bottom where the pump is located and lock it up.
Also, if you use sand as a substrate then, more likely the fish put it in there and the pump is at the bottom and so is the sand, which...locks up the pump.
The one biggest problem I see in the FX5's is pump on the bottom and very limited amount of media choices for the media baskets.
Take apart the pump and clean it. It sucks, I just tore down one of my FX5's to get the chempure out of the bottom basket, and it was a pain in the ***.
I feel ya...

After having FX5's , Rena Xp4's, and Eheim 2260 and 2262's, I can tell you nothing will beat a Eheim 2262.
The only thing that can come close is a wetdry with added mechanical filtration.

I just sent FishLady down to city pets to pick me up a new FX5, ( I just spent 40 dollars on the new pads and media for my used one) I am thinking that I will be looking for a used 2262 or a good deal on a new one. David at City Pets said he would be happy to take a look at my used FX5, so I'll be taking it down there on Saturday. I'm in the market for a Eheim 2262 though if anyone knows where there is one for sale at a great price. I have a AGA Model 400 on the 210 now with a powerhead and a Emp400 for emergency use only. The FX5 has never seemed to be as powerfull as it should have been, but maybe it has a bad impeller or something, we'll see what the new one is capable of ....
Thanks all
Steve

I know that City Pets last week had still a 2260 in stock down there, and a FX5. The 2262 is harder to find... Almost the only place I see them are online, but I am sure that you will only need to ask someone like Mike to order one in for you and he can take care of you :)

PS there is no difference in the 2260 and 2262 except for
1. 2262 comes with quick connects/disconnects... the 2260 does not come with them at all.
2. The 2262 uses a 1262 pump rated at 900 gph vs the 2260 which uses a 1260 pump running at about 600 gph.

I did use those "silk socks" to hold my carbon, I rinsed the sock throughly and thought I had a good seal on all my media bags. I supposed a random piece of carbon or something else might have found its way to the impeller, we'll see.

In some reviews of the FX5 I have read where people said the smart chip went out on them.
You may have to end up getting a new pump should this one be clean.
