  • n00b to the forum, Deerpark/Pasadena area....

    Hello everyone,
I was browsing a few aquarium forums, did a search on google and this site popped up.
Currently I don't have a tank set up, it's been a years since I had a tank, but I'm looking to get back into my old hobby I had growing up.

    Currently I have  a 24G
    2ft Length
    1ft Width
    19.5 Inches Tall.

I'm not sure if this is the tank I'll be setting up I'd rather have my fish swim horizontal than vertical.

      Greetings BigC

Every tank has its pros and cons. Start with that one and take it from there.

      Good Luck & Welcome

Thanks a lot everyone, I hope to learn from the mistakes I made when I was a kid

I didn't know too much about cycling back then so I've been reading up freshwater and it's process on that.

I appreciate it man, I'm in the midst of maybe setting up my 24g for the bedroom.
Sell a few paintings then purchase something a bit bigger for the living room

I'm just not sure what type of fish I'd want to put in...

Well I would do some research on what you like... ask questions and see what you come across.  Many people here including myself like Cichlids as they each as individuals seems to have their own personality and are fun fish.  Most will spawn and tend to the fry where many other non-cichlids will simply eat the eggs if given the opportunity.

If starting out, think about what you want to do with the tank... You want a planted tank, a rocky tank, a desert motif ??
Do you want fish to look at for their colors ?  Or are you more interested in personality ?

As far as setting something up, I know for sure I wouldn't have time to have a live planted tank.
I'd like something slightly rocky/maybe a good piece of drift wood.

Substrate I'm looking for maybe something a bit dark or possibly some light sand.

Fish Wise- I'm guessing for the bedroom maybe some docile fish such as gouramis, tetras, angels, danios, black moor goldfish. Things like that, I'm sure I am limited due to a tall tank :(

So for starters something like the list above.

Cichlids are not out of the ? but I would like to have a bigger tank If I'm going to get involved with them.....  :P

I can't see pictures from work, but if your tank is tall rather than long, I KNOW the angels would love that.  I have black blasting sang in one of the tanks of angels I have....that and a terra cotta flower pot,.... and a piece of slate leaning off the edge.  I also have a few plants in there.  I have plants in most of my tanks now.  Plants are not really increasing my work load at this point.  I have one super heavily planted tank that gets it's weekly dose  of CO2.  $ of my other tanks have semi heavy plant loads with at lease 5 varieties of plants and at least one pretty large plant hiding in there somewhere.  The rest of my tanks either have 1 plant as a munchy for anyone who is veggie hungry, or no plants because the current is too high/lighting not adequate.  Since august I went from 2 10 gallon tanks to  um.. *counting* 16 tanks ranging from a betta bowl to a 75 gallon.  Several of my tanks contain varieties not commonly together as well as babies that grow at alarmingly rapid rates. Welcome to the box and sell those paintings.
