  • December Pick Up

    Mike,

Welcome aboard the HFB Forum Board.

I just wanted to give you a welcome and ask if there was anything I should bring like, buckets, when I come to pick up my fish in late December?

How many fish are you putting into a bag? Should we transport our fish in the bags and just place them into buckets for stability?

Will our fish be acclimated for certain foods as well as our local water ?

Is there anything else I can do to ensure the transaction is a successful one?

    Best Regards

    Steve/CF

      Re: December Pick Up

      Steve,

First things first, and that would be when you plan on coming up.
Being so close to the holidays may present a problem since I will be out of town for Christmas.
I should be back by the 27th though.
If everyone wants to come up on one day then there will be some issues, but we can work that out if that becomes the case.

      1. My personal preference is to put 3-4 (trophs) to a decent sized bag, but 10 fish to a monster bag is also an option, of course this varies with fish sizes and types.

      2. Generally when people pick up fish they are double bagged and sat in a cardboard box and that is enough for the ride home. (Provided the car has A/C and heat, right Geoff?)

      3. I feed HBH foods, generally a soft pellet and flake high in spirulina.

      4. While I can't be sure of your local water parameters out of the tap in H-town, I can give you all my parameters that I use.

      5. Bring beer.

            Re: December Pick Up

I'll leave it up to you as far as what day would be best for you for the pick up. It could be the end of December or the first few days of 08 if you like.

I'd like to let my new tank cycle as much as possible.

                    Re: December Pick Up

I have a 2001 Dodge Ram that has a hole in the Evaporator and looses a full charge of Freon in 10 days.

All my other fittings and connections do not come up on a hit froma freon detector.  The only hit they get is when they put the detector under the dash.

So, I got a hole in the evaporator.

Then, they tell me you got to pull the whole dash to cut out and sweat-in a new Evaporator.  Then they tell me if your spending the 8 hours of labor to pull and put back the entire dash, I might as well do the heater core also.

So, I'm looking at about a grand for labor and about 200 in parts.

You know where I can get better????

                      Re: December Pick Up

What happened the last time I got fish from Mike, I had no AC.  So they fish had to put up with the Summer Heat for 2 hour drive, and then...I went into a Best-Buy and got lost in the movie isle for about 45 mintues, then realized...oh **** the fish!!!

I paid for my movies, got into the truck, got home, floated the fish for an 40 minutes, realesed them into the aquarium.

Then I left to go to the bar, came back from the bar the next morning, and half the fish were dead.

I immediately perform a waterchange and all the rest are doing great. One still has a cloudy eye, that I'm medicating.

So..moral of the storey...Dont get lost in the Movie Isle while you got fish in the car.

I am thinking that Geoff has learned his lesson... road trip in vehicle which functions 100% and no stopping for anything until the fish are at home in the tank cooling off and being happy.
