  • Interesting Growth?

I have a rainbow (about 3 inches) that has been living with my angels since um...... I think mid september.  Friday night when I came home from the meeting, I looked and he had a HUGE bubble like growth coming out of his right side, back gill.  I immediately took him out of that tank, and plopped him into the 5.5 gallon I had just set up that I spiked with pimafix.  It appears, as of today, that the "growth" has gone down in size from a marble size to an itty bitty pea.  I can't get any good pictures for some reason.  I am wondering if I should "binox" him or if I need to treat the tank he was in.  Suggestions?

      Re: Interesting Growth?

the pictures I took will not help.  It his last gill back, is now the size of a shriveled up pea, appears to be meaty (inner fish flesh colored with red streaks like blood vessels).  IT appeared to be coming out of his gill.  There is nothing coming out of, or looking like it might come out of the other side.  The fish uses mostly his other side fin, and the hospital tank completely stressed him out.  He kept swimming into the glass- HARD.  After a weekend in binox and pimafix I sent him back home to his 75.  I will keep a close eye on him.  The "growth" was much larger than it is now.  I'll see if I can get any pics while he is in his usual home. In the little tank I just had an incadescent bulb that didn't allow enough light to shoot without the flash, but without the light on...aside from the pos camera not being able to focus, the flash cast too much of a glare.  Sorry.   I'll show you what I got.

I had a juvie ahli with the same thing, wasnt able to cure it and instead of risking contamination of the whole tank, I put him down.(He had it for over a month and melafix didnt help,I was thinking fungal infection but couldnt pinpoint it.)

                  Re: Interesting Growth?

Well cesar, it still shows a big red "x" where the pic should be.  I guess I'll pull him back out and set up a bigger tank just for him and a good dose of binox.

If you find the pic in your files at home, send it off to me so I can compare.

Thanks for your help guys.  I tried 5 different ways to take pics, but nothing is coming out clearly.
                  Later ;-)

                    Re: Interesting Growth?

may be more stress on the fish than its worth, but have you tried getting the fish out of the water and then taking a quick shot.

I would definately not put him back in with the other fish unless that thing goes away.

See if any of those seems to be what your fish have... then Call Mike and get the medication that is needed if any.
