Well I read that if anyone had any suggestions or comments to post in the section so I decided to start a thread up. I like the new layout, nice touch. I dont know if its my comp or if anyone else is seeing this but some of the links that have pictures are not showing the pictures for example the "post topic" doesnt show an image. It justs has the red X like there should be one and says post topic.

Darbex, I am using Firefox and I dont have the problem you are talking about. *If I use Internet Explorer I see the issue you are referring to. *I have also noticed that the top posts are not showing in Firefox, but they are in Internet Explorer. *
Sadly I dont know PHP-BB well enough to know if there is a difference on how it displays information etc..
I am going to make a search on Google to see if there is something that has to be made different in PHP-BB to fix the issue.

Reason I am bring this up is because it looks like Ken when having to upgrade the site also took advantage of a newer version of PHP-BB and upgraded it too :) *I like it much more

For anyone who is having display problems may want to assist Ken and at the same time report the following information to see if there is a trend.

OS : WinXP
Browser : Firefox 2.0.0.7

-- I dont see the top posts.. only see those in IE.. but this was also an issue before the site went down. *It was not until I used IE that I noticed the feature there.

Personally I dont care, therefore I am not going to complain about it. * All the post reply / New topic buttons show for me in Firefox but not in IE 7.

My 1.5 cents.
Jesper

Yeah what Jesper said. Ok I dont know what PHP-BB is thats like speaking Russian to me. I am an Accountant.

Darbex... *PHP-BB is the underlying software that makes up the forum. *It has a set of rules guiding you though it. *You will notice at the VERY bottom of the the pages the following lines :: fisubsilver shadow phpbb2 style by Daz :: PHP-Nuke theme by coldblooded (www.nukemods.com) :: *This is a basically the copyright line for PHP-BB and PHP-Nuke... you will notice it says phpbb2 which equates to PHP-BB ver2. *PHP-Nuke is another app that displays content in forms (like a news paper)
I used to run a BB (Forum) back in the day and its what I used.. but you can modify it from here tilll Friday, but somethings never change. *The version Ken is running is a modification available at www.nukemods.com which is why its listed.

So in short.. The HoustonFishbox is a Forum being run on a server using the software package named PHP-BB - see http://www.phpbb.com/

I will make the best guess and say there is something in the forum code that is causing most of the issues you are seeing with the forum today.

Last but not least... best viewed in Firefox or another non-microsoft aka IE browser.

BUt there has to be a way to correct it with out having all IE users go out and buy Firefox or whatever, right?

I'm sure its just some tweaking that Ken has to do. *We shouldn't have to switch browsers just to look at the site correctly. *We wouldn't be getting any new Boxers if that was the case.

I like to page through the Recent Topics. When I choose a topic from > page 1 and read the topic, the Recent Topics list always goes back to page 1, and then I have to re-page through the list each time. *I hope I'm saying this right. Frustrating.

I think you are trying to say that in the recent topics page when clicking on a thread it doesn't open the the thread in a new page but rather opens it in the same page, forcing you to back page to go back to the recent topics.

It's always been like that and I think you can set your browser to open links in a new page.

Yeah, or you can right-click and select Open Link in New Window. That's what I do sometimes.

I tried to re-submit the GHAC Meeting to the Calendar since the upgrade and I get the following error.

"You have attempted to use a False Admin cookie to access this site!"

Update on recent topics

OS : WinXP
Browser : Firefox 2.0.07

When editing your preferences there is an option that allows you to set what resent topics you have. *I changed mine to "all" and I now have everything and it looks like what it did before the upgrade. *I dont know if people are still having problems with IE, but I can say with firefox all is well now :)

I also took a minute and looked at the IE complaint about the smaller forum pages.
This looks to be a Nuke-PHP problem more than it looks to be a PHP-BB issue..
Ken I know you are extremely busy with all of this, but you may want to check the css style sheet for Nuke to display the PHP forum page.
I could be completely wrong and off on the deep end, just trying to help

Thanks

complicated fix. I did it before, now I have to remember what I did. I'll look into it though. It's annoying to me as well.

I'm still seeing the problem PP brought up about the previous/next links on the recent posts...also, the titles of attachments in posts are difficult to see as well. At least on my computer! *:)

This is what mine looks like (i.e. half screen). When I previewed this post, the screen is even smaller, probably about 50% white space on the right...

Oh yeah, I just took that with the grain of salt. *I thought people were having problems with half screens vertically not horizontally.

Aha! Thanks! I don't see this in FireFox. It seems to be something that only affects Internet Explorer. I'll try to find a fix. Thanks for the screen shot. Also, the previous/next is affected only for IE as well. I'll look into that one as well.

You may not think this is funny but it remindes me of when I was running the JSC TI99 users bulletin board on a 1200 baud modem. (early 80's when only the military and universities had "Internet") We were constantly tweeking the software and hardware. *Worst thing I ever did was let the users choose the color of their background and the color of their text and when they made them both the same no one could see to change it back.

Just remember no mater how much time & effort you spend making it fool proof, sooner or later you'll find a bigger fool !
