  • Red Cherry Shrimp - Group buy.

I was over at Mike's Tropical Fish & Pets today talking RCS.  He said he'd carry them but the smallest order would be 300.  He said if he could sell 200 when he got them in he'd place the order.  About $1 per shrimp is about market now a days (my thoughts) Mike said he could hit close to that price point.

So this is the commitment list.  Put your name here and let's get Mike to order us a bunch of RCS.

He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

do you have to quarantine shrimp like you do all other fish because of disease and such?  i've never had any shrimp, so i was wondering, also, is there possibility of my fish (cardinal & glowlight tetras) getting any diseases from RCS?

I'm really interested in some Cherry Shrimp, but not like the numbers you guys are posting!!    For $1 a piece I'd probably get around 5-10.

I would probably get around 10 or 20... You guys say they breed well right? I wanna eventually put them in with my super cool mollies! I guess for now though, they can live in my 2.5 while the big tank cycles. What do you feed shrimp? Algae wafers?

you might wanna rethink that idea. RCS are so small when they are young that they really need a tank all to themselves to flourish. i have tried them with very small fish and they still dont do well. Mollies will eat them right up. also they scavenge alge and leftover food. anything that hits bottom or get stuck in plants. they are very good cleaners they just cant have many fish inhabitants. maybe somethin really really small like neons or cardinals. or jelly bean tetras.

Oh and EK even if it was like a 1.50 im ok with that especially since i trust Mike, i gotta talk to him about Powercompact bulbs cus i wasnt really happy with internet prices.

Re: Red Cherry Shrimp - Group buy.

The RCS babies are super small and I think even Cardinals if left hungry will make a snack out of them.

Shrimp are inverts which are sensitive to a lot of things that change in the aquarium especially with community tanks.....they are sensitive to copper, salts, Nitrates, I think most ich meds, fluctuations....etc.

Mine get fed flakes daily which I drop in at the filter output to blow it all over the tank and then they scavenge it from there. The breed well if the tank is stable and in good standings but if there are predators the numbers you see will not be as high as it would be for others.

Well, I guess my idea wouldn't be too smart after all. LOL! Sorry Mike! I will just have to put some of my pretty, apple snails in with them...or buy more snails off of Aquabid!!!

I love that site! If anybody decides to buy snails from Aquabid, go with Elizabeth!! She is super nice and her snails are perfect! She will even pick the colors you want usually, and she send extras!!
