  • Stocking advice

Ok I have my 55 gallon set up and the water is cycling now. But I am a little overwhelmed with all the infor on cichlids. I like the Mel electric blue johanni, males are one color and females are another. But I am at a loss as to how to start the stocking. I thought I needed to get all the fish about the same size/age? Is that correct? And I would like to find another cichlid with the color difference to add to the johanni.

Any stocking suggestions for a newbie?

I would start out looking here. These are the lake malawi mbuna that are dimorphic:

I dont know much about the johanni specifically but I no the Mel. cichlids are supposed to be real aggressive.

You can add whatever size as long as the males go in at one time and in a 55g I probably wouldn't put too many of them.
