Home Depot and Lowes should have it, I've heard Wal-Mart has it but I haven't seen it there.

Only color I've ever seen is white. Tahitian Moon sand comes in black, but it's about $25 a bag. 3M makes Color Quartz that comes in a bunch of different colors and two sizes, and it can be pretty cheap too.

            Re: pool filter sand

A thread talking about pool filter sand, and according to this, there's only one color:

Strange, I've only seen white, too.

I've heard about that 3M Quartz...I'd like to know where you can find that, as well.

Its more like off white in color.  The bags I got fromt the Walmart in Atascocita had a tan/yellow tint to it.  By the way, that is the only Walmart that I know of that carried it.

I use it in most of my tanks.

I have some white sand from Aqua Zoo....but don't use it with HOB filters.  It has wiped out numerous impellers.  It looks nice though, it doesn't pack down like some that I have seen. $25.00 for 100lbs.

National Pool Tile used to carry Color Quartz, you might give them a call and see if they still carry it, (713) 460-8794.

                    Re: pool filter sand

There's a pool place over by B&B tropical fish that carries the PFS.

Hanson, if it's eating up impellers then the sand is too fine, PFS is pretty good of not staying in the water column. TMS is a bit too fine for my taste as well.

Thanks for the info, szidlon. I looked them up on the web, here's what they had listed there:

I'll give them a call later to see what brands they might carry besides these, since I don't know if these would be safe.

Yeah, the stuff that I have looks and works great in a big deep tank where you are running a canister filter.  My friend is running them same stuff in a 115g with a Filstar3 and hasn't had a problem.
