  • Prolific Bolivian Rams

I have a Bolivian pair that spawn like rabbits in a community tank. The parents are extremely watchful and protective and keep everything away (Angels, checkerboard cichlids, apistos, cory's and tetras).

However, once they get older and bolder, the wigglers begin to explore on their own and get picked off.

I'm not so concerned about the babies as I am the parents. Do they need to have their babies grow or does it not matter to them? I'm thinking the latter as this is their 4th batch in 1 1/2 months.

I doubt it matters to them but I can see how it would be a bit stressful trying to coral the wigglers once they start wondering.

My Rams and Apistos were the same way and would act a bit frantic when the wigglers wondered off but shortly after the littles ones were eaten they bred again.

Hey jklntx, would you happen to have a female Bolivian Ram or have you seen any around the town. I have 4 2" Male Bolivian Rams but just cant find a mate for them. They must be showing awesome color when they spawn.

I had an extra male too and knew from a  couple months back FishLand usually has a batch of Bolivians. I found a couple females. I took one and introduced her to my other male hoping they will pair like the other 2.

Its been about 2 weeks and havent actually matched but it looks like they are growing on each other. They are showing nice color too...the water suits them in

The breeders are great in color...reds, yellows, grey and black. The female from Fishland is looking great too...I think because I maintain a lower PH and hardness level than they do.

Last week Fishland still had Bolivians - I think priced at $2.69 each..

Do you mind if I ask what are your parameters of your water ?
