  • Computer at home can't find Fish Box.

I posted this at Dallas Fish Box when at home and thought I could get a try here.

For some reason on my computer I cannot find the Houston Fish Box.  I surf it on my breaks at work.  But for some reason I cannot pull it up on my computer at home in either IE or FireFox.  Computer at work runs on NT/2000 and I run XP if that makes any difference at all.

I get linked to Foxic.net.  It is some worthless server mostly porn site link engine search site thing.  Any reason I can get onto Dallas and not Houston fish box?

Well, I know nothing about this kind of stuff   , but I do know that you can go to both www.houstonfishbox.com and houstonfishbox.com. Have you tried both?

I have some skills in this area....I would suggest, you confirm your typing fist off, second obtain the IP address from the admistrator here and try to ping it from your command prompt in the start up menu....in the command prompt, you can actually type in the url as well.... www.houstonfishbox.com, try that and see what happens?

Maybe try a google search too.....type in houstonfishbox in the search box and see what links are provided, try to click on them and see if that don't take you to the site...if it does, then bookmark it.

      Good Luck

Yeah, the WWW doesn't make a difference and the search engine I've tried that too.  Haven't tried the ping.  Anyone know the address?

Re: Computer at home can't find Fish Box.

About a week ago I was not being allowed to access this site from my laptop at home. I had a message pop up saying that my ip address was being restricted from access houstonfishbox.com. I could access the site from another computer at home but not from my laptop. I email the administrator from this site and he was able to take of care the problem for me.

Yeah, I didn't think to try from my laptop.  My roommate also has a Macbook.   Should be able to figure out if it is my IP or something my pc is doing
Oh and if you ping www.houstonfishbox.com  the IP reply is 65.98.16.186

Type that number (65.98.16.186) into your browser's address box.....if that don't work, contact the HFB Admin.

Well you can forget that idea, that IP address will not take you to the HFB, I just tried it myself and was redirected to an apache server web page.

Did you try a link from a search engine yet?

Hi, were you able to try what I suggested over at DFB? Clear cache, cookies, and history? I think you have a corrupt entry somewhere. Also, if you use a router or modem, reboot that too and your computer if you haven't already.

If you are running WindowsXP you can try the following to test the IP trick for sure.
                    Start up notepad.
Open the file c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts  (Make sure that you have notepad set to view all files)
On the last line insert the following line.

                    65.98.16.186 houstonfishbox.com

                    save and close.

This will create a static entry for the Houstonfishbox.com which will work short term but if they ever move, change IP or anything else..  well you will no longer work again..

If this does not work then there are other issues going on that you would need to have someone who understands your computer system a little better take a look at.   Its a problem that should be easily fixable.

The fix above resolves the issue if your ISP provider has a bad DNS server somewhere not updating its information.

Thank you for trying, but that's not a good solution. If it works at all, it will only work temporarily because that ip address can change.

There are ways around everything. Are they ethical? I dunno. Haven't tried this one ... but my students use www.instantunblock.com

I'd clear cookies too....access your cookies file through Explore function and get to the file directly and then delete your recycle bin as well

I'll try that at work tomorrow Tim, but I'm thinking the IT dept probably has that site blocked too  :(
