i have heard about people using daphnia both as a small detrius cleaner and as food for their fish, how easy is it to keep a culture and what fish enjoy feeding of them. is it a problem to have a free breeding population in a tank with the fish? and if its ok then who has daphnia for me to start my own colony?, and how do u take care of said colony?

Re: Daphnia cultures
There are many differend species of daphnia from verry verry small to giants (1/4") The giants do not do well in our summer heat but are good for a winter crop. Best food for daphnia is green water from your pond.
But many people feed vitimins and color enhansing foods to the daphnia as a way to serve it to their fish. Keeping fish in with your daphnia results in fat fish but no daphnia. Daphnia are very sensitive to water conditions. They tend to multiply, become overcrowded and then die off. I think they double every other day if given good conditions.'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

Re: Daphnia cultures
I have a small culture that I am willing to split.
Will you be traveling to the south side of town or
attending and "fish" functions soon ?'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
