    Re: sandblast gravel substrate

I have about 25 pounds just sitting around right now...

I bought it from the store that has now become Megan's Tropical Emporium about five years ago (its closer than 10 years ago!). The safest bet is probably to just go to:

HoustonFishBox is an online community dedicated to bringing together people and their fish in Houston, Southeast Texas, and beyond.

and start calling around unless someone else responds here.

Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

Check with the building supply stores.
they usually have 2 grades (one has fine sand mixed in)
or you may find "sandbox" sand

He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't "Sandblast Gravel Substrate" just really small sized gravel?

the stuff from lowes is decent, but really dirty

I put about 60 lbs in my 65 gallon last week

I guess I need to wash it more thoroughly next time

                    Re: sandblast gravel substrate

I just picked up 100 lbs bag of white sandblast sand on Garrett Rd. for $7.50 last weekend. They also have them in black, brown, & red. Call 281-456-9553 & ask for Sonya.

                      Re: sandblast gravel substrate

How well would this be if I use a Python to clean the gravel. Would this sandblast sand pose a problem. I would like to change my gravel out but it would cost way too much. Hey ptn, put some pics up of the white once you get it in your aquarium. I am trying to stay with a white base.

Coop, I'm trying to upload some photos to the gallery, but there seems to be some problems with photo gallery. I can email you some photos if you would post your email address.

                            Re: sandblast gravel substrate

I think read this somewhere that the sand are so tightly pack (unlike gravel) that food & waste don't penetrate, so you you simply clean the surface of the sand during water change.

If someone has some experience with sand substrate aquarium, please corrent me if I'm wrong.

Coop, I just posted the photo in the gallery. The white sand really makes the tank looks a lot brigther.
